Magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgO nanoparticles), often called Magnesium Oxide nanopowder, are fine powder comprising 5 – 100 nanometers (nm) size particles. It has a high surface area. It is a solid form mineral with antimicrobial properties. The Magnesium Oxide nanopowder has gram-positive, gram-negative, and endospore-forming bacteria. It is one of the rare metals that exhibit the minimum or no harm-causing agents to the human body. MgO nanoparticles synthesized by magnesium oxide or magnesia. It is a white hygroscopic mineral that exists naturally as periclase. The source of MgO is magnesium. It is odourless and non-toxic. MgO nanoparticles are a promising antibacterial agent as they show high resistance to harsh processing conditions. The product has a high melting point, purity, and hardness. Synthesis

The synthesis of the nanoparticles involves applying a high-energy mechanical milling process on the oxidized magnesium at constant intervals. The process reduces the initial temperature of the carbothermic reduction reaction. It forms magnesia crystallites reduced to a nano-metric scale.

The Magnesium oxide nanopowder can also be developed using green synthesis and hydroxide precipitation process. It is distinguished by X-ray powder diffraction and scanning electron microscopes. It follows by the thermal decomposition of the hydroxide.
